What is MOPS?
MOPS (Mothers of PreSchoolers) is an international organization for all moms of infants to kindergartners (pregnant mommies, too!) MOPS provides an opportunity to meet other moms in the area and enjoy the journey of motherhood together! MOPS of DeKalb is a group of 20-25 women who meet on a regular basis to socialize, share struggles, laugh, and learn how to become better mommies.
What makes MOPS unique?
MOPS isn’t just another playgroup. We do so much more than just socialize and have fun (though we do have lots of that!) MOPS seeks to equip you as a mom to become the best mom you can be through a strong support network of women who are in the same stage of motherhood as you are, through relevant speakers and discussions catered to meet the unique needs of mothers of young children.
Our Meetings:
Each meeting is a variation of speakers, discussion topics, crafts (that we get to start and finish without any interruptions and with no mess to clean up!), service projects, games, time to get to know one another and of course, a warm breakfast. We have also planned some “Moms Night Out” events as well as family outings and summer play dates at the park.
The theme this year is Together on Planet Mom. Some of the topics we are planning include: Getting to Know You, Teaching our Children about Stranger Danger, Taking Photos of Their World, Giving Your Kids Some Culture, Cooking, Having Patience with our Kids, Energizing Fun and Getting a Few Things Done!, Annual Pampering Day, New Years Resolutions, Marriage Popcorn Questions, What Not To Wear, Annual MOP Swap and Babysitting Tips, Men’s Panel, How to Protect Your Skin, Car Seat Safety and Clean Out, Easy DIY Home Repairs, Tea and Testimony, and Mommy & Me Picnic at the Park.
Childcare:
Childcare is available for children ages 0-5. Newborns up to twelve weeks old are welcome to stay with you during the meeting. Children enjoy a fun program called MOPPETS. A typical MOPPETS morning will consist of playtime, story time, crafts, and snacks in a fun, engaging environment. Our caregivers are head teachers and volunteers who have lovingly offered their time, patience, and attention to our children while we meet upstairs.
The goal of the MOPPETS program is to provide your children an opportunity to have fun while learning to make new friends, and to gain experience trusting loving adult caregivers. When we are successful in providing a quality MOPPETS program, we also succeed in providing moms with the peace of mind that their children are well cared for while they rejuvenate and grow personally in their time at MOPS.
Cost:
Becoming a MOPS Mom is only $40.00 per semester. This fee covers the cost of our speakers, craft materials, drinks, advertising, curriculum, door prizes, and everything else that helps make MOPS happen! You will also receive perks such as a 1 year subscription to MOMSense magazine, a book entitled Life on Planet Mom: A down-to-earth guide to your changing relationships, and more!
There is also a small $10.00 fee for the Moppets childcare program per semester per mom. If you are unable to bring your children to Moppets, this fee is waived.
If you know someone who needs MOPS but may not be able to afford it, please contact us. Scholarships are available and will always remain confidential.
Registration is required before attending a meeting and is based on a first-come, first-serve basis. This enables us to plan on you being there and having adequate childcare workers in your child’s classroom. Once we reach childcare capacity, you will be placed on a waiting list and notified as soon as an opening exists.
